Youth Speak Out on Behalf of the Arts

Eleven CMSD students have been learning about advocacy as part of a service learning model in connection with the Case Mandel Center for Youth Philanthropy and Service. These Youth Arts Ambassadors are enthusiastic spokespersons for arts education and Art is Education in CMSD. They feel compelled to gain the arts advantage for their peers as part of a well rounded education. This gathering of advocates will meet with local representatives to gain support for more funding for the arts.

We are Cleveland Metropolitan School District Students and Arts Education Ambassadors.

We participate in the CMSD All-City Arts Program, Kaiser Permanente Theater Program and Art is Education Youth Arts Advocacy. Through these arts programs we learn to master our art skills in dance, theatre, creative writing, choir, jazz band and visual arts. We also learn how to work as advocates.

We perform and exhibit our creative talents to thousands in the community. We use drama to help other students learn to live healthy through healthy eating and HIV/Aids awareness.

These arts experiences have helped us

The arts have given us what we need to succeed in life as citizens of the 21st Century.
